Early History of EMC

1893 - The German Society of Electrotechnicians, founded.

1893 - VDE founded The Verband der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik (VDE) or Association for Electrical, Electronic and  Information Technologies.

1901 - BSI founded The British Standards Institution (BSI).

1905 - SAE founded The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
 
1933 - CISPR founded Comité International  Spécial des Perturbations Radioélectriques (CISPR), or International Special Committee on Radio Interference

1934 - The FCC was formed by the Communications Act of 1934 The Federal  Communications Commission (FCC).

 1947-  International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which publishes standards for the automotive industry.The organization today known as ISO began in 1926 as the International Federation of the National Standardizing Associations (ISA) organization officially began operations in February 1947

1957 - Birth date of IEEE EMC Society

1961-  The CEN was founded in 1961.Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN) or European Committee for Standardization)

1973- CENELEC was founded in 1973.Comité Européen de Normalisation  Electrotechniques (CENELEC) or European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation

1988 - ETSI was created by CEPT in 1988 European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)

1967 - MIL-STD-461, MILITARY STANDARD: ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE CHARACTERISTICS REQUIREMENTS FOR  EQUIPMENT (31 JULY 1967)

1973 - The International Electrotechnical Commission, the IEC, founded the technical committee TC77 whose function is to develop standards related to EMC. Technical Committee 77 (TC77), working on electromagnetic compatibility between equipment including networks 

1978 - Formation of ACEC BY IEC  On 21 June 1978,The Advisory Committee on Electromagnetic Compatibility (ACEC) co-ordinates the IEC's work on EMC .


1989 - The original EMC Directive, 89/336/EEC, was enacted in 1989 and  came into force on 1 January 1992
